From the Doctor…

My desire to study alternative medicine began at a young age watching my mother’s grueling and ultimately losing battle with cancer.  I remember thinking that there must be a better way to treat illness.  By my early 20’s I was exploring various types of alternative health care approaches such as massage, chiropractic, herbs, homeopathy and traditional oriental medicine and ultimately naturopathic medicine.

I chose to specialize in naturopathic medicine because I found that traditional oriental medicine offered the most consistent and positive results.  Traditional Oriental Medicine (TOM) provides a complete system of healing with a focus on alleviating the symptoms and the cause of imbalance and discomfort.

In 1983 I was in the first graduating class of the first acupuncture school in California.   Back then acupuncture was considered “weird.”   There were only a few of us and there were no books!  Our teachers were so eager to share their knowledge they created their own notes.  A few years later acupuncture was considered cool and our bookshelves were full.

At the Pacific College of Naturopathic Medicine I had the privilege of studying with such luminaries as Dr. Andrew Weil; Ted Kaptchuk, OMD; George Vithoulkas; Bernard Jensen, Iridologist;  Michael Broffman, OMD (cancer specialist); Jefferey Bland, Nutritionist, and many more incredible teachers.

In an ideal world we should feel the way we feel after a treatment.  My goal is to restore your body’s natural balance and chi in order to better deal with the external causes of stress, disease and imbalance.
